GH SWEEPS QUAD AGAINST APEX FRIENDSHIP

On Friday, the Falcons hosted the first quad of the season against Apex Friendship. The Falcons went 4-0 against the Patriots. The JV girls started the night with a 40-21 win, followed by the JV boys who outpaced the opponent 71-29. The varsity girls remain undefeated and move to 6-0 after winning 56-30. The women are now ranked first in the SWAC. The varsity men thoroughly handled the controlled all aspects of the game, defeating the Patriots 76-27. This was Coach Green’s 100th win as a varsity coach. The boys move to 5-1 overall and are ranked first in the SWAC. The leading scorer of the game was junior captain Ryan Shaffer with 23 points, followed by senior captain Alex Clinkscales with 19. Friday was a huge milestone for Coach Green. This is his seventh year as a varsity coach, and he has reached his 100th win. Green reflects on his most memorable win, “My most memorable win was probably when we beat Apex about four years ago for the conference tournament championship.” Comparing the first year he coached to this year’s team, Green told us, “My first year, the team was much younger and inexperienced; we had about three sophomores that started so they weren’t as experienced as other teams we played. This year, the boys are a good balance of experienced and young. They’re ready to play big games.” Coach Green’s favorite thing about coaching is getting to know the players. The women remain ranked fifth in the county, and the men have moved up to 14th. Next the Falcons will play the Fuquay-Varina Bengals tomorrow, December 6. The men will travel to Fuquay-Varina, and the women will play at home. Varsity games start at 6:30, come out and support the Falcons.
