The good news was that Bartlesville High School scored the first and final touchdowns in Friday’s football battle against Sand Springs.

It was all the stuff in-between that made the difference in favor of the Sand Springs Sandites.

Sand Springs scored on its first two possessions of the first half and of the second half and thundered to the win, 47-28, to spoil Bartlesville’s Senior Night celebration at Custer Stadium.

The loss simplified Bartlesville’s path to the playoffs — the Bartlesville Bruins (5-4, 2-3) have to win next Thursday at Tulsa Washington or miss out on the postseason.

Despite the setback, the Bruins provided plenty of thrills for their home faithful. In the final 30 seconds of the first half, the Bruins scored on a double-lateral — off a hook-and-ladder — to trim Sand Springs lead to four points at halftime, 25-21.

But, the Sandites would build a 47-21 lead before Bartlesville scored again.

DeAndre Young tallied the touchdown on the trickery-and-execution of Bartlesville’s final snap of the second half. A.J. Archambo and John Cone also handled the ball downfield on the play.

The Bruins finished their home schedule with a 2-3 mark, including a forfeit win against Capitol Hill.
