Lady Tiger fast pitch falls to Yukon

YUKON - It was bound to happen at some point. Wednesday just happened to be that day.

Broken Arrow fast pitch advanced to the championship round of the Yukon Regional with a win earlier in the day but came up short in a back-and-forth battle with top seed and host Yukon that ended in a 10-8 verdict.

The loss ended the Lady Tigers' season with a 20-18 record and kept them out of the State tournament for the first time since 1994.

Yukon, which went unbeaten in three games during the regional, will take a 27-6 record into next week's State tournament in Oklahoma City.

Yukon jumped out to a 6-0 lead through two innings.

The Lady Millers scored five times in the first, aided by three consecutive BAHS errors in the field.

Cameron Ortiz belted a two-out three-run home run in the third. Erica Spencer followed with a solo shot in a five-run rally to close the gap to 6-5.

BAHS took the lead with two more in the fourth. Aleigha Brown and Mary Collins reached and scored to give the Lady Tigers a 7-6 lead.

Yukon answered with two runs in the fourth and two more in the retake the lead, at 10-7.

Kristian Reiss led off the seventh with a single and came around to score on Spencer's two-out single to left. Reagan Edwards followed with single but both runners were stranded as Yukon held on for the win.

Spencer took the loss as she went 1 2/3 innings. Spencer allowed four hits and was charged with six runs allowed, but just two were earned.

BAHS 5, Norman 3: The Lady Tigers topped Norman for the second time in as many days in their first elimination game on Wednesday.

Collins scattered eight hits, allowed three earned runs to get the win.

Trailing 3-1, the Lady Tigers scored four times in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead for good.

Brown led off with a hit by pitch. Elizabeth McKellip then reached on an error. Collins drove in Brown with a double. After Grace Jarvis was hit by pitch with one out, Ortiz singled to left to score McKellip. Spencer then drove in Jarvis with a double to left.
Collins also belted a two-out double in the third and later scored.
