During the offseason Southside had to adjust to their move from 7A-West to the 7A-Central. The Mavericks were momentarily apart of the 7A/6A Central for two years (2012-2013), but they have since been apart of the 7A-West until this year. Bringing adjustments to not only their schedule, but how they play the game.

"You know it's going to help us if we get in the playoffs ," said Jeff Williams. "When you play that kind of competition week in and week out it's going to help you play later on down the road but it's going to be a very difficult league. Probably toughest schedule from top to bottom since I have been here."

The Mavericks return 13 total starters, one of those starters being returning senior nose guard Hunter Moreton. Last season Moreton racked up 56 tackles, bringing a lot of experience back to the defense. The Arkansas State commit helps anchor a senior heavy defensive line, which may be Southside's strongest assets heading into a tougher season schedule.

"It's just going to be a tougher schedule I think honestly with moving over," said Moreton. All these teams are really good we have to play at our 100 percent full speed, all the time."

Southside will start their season on Sept. 2 at Har-Ber.
