CARDINALS SEASON PREVIEW

Cardinals Season Preview

The 2016 season will be one of change for the Camden Fairview Cardinals. Former head coach Mike Cox stepped down from the head coaching position after almost 30 years of coaching at Camden Fairview. Jake Monden was brought in to take over the Cardinals program and to continue to build on the success that has been Camden Fairview football over the years. With 12 starters returning for the Cardinals, this has the makings of being a talented team that could challenge for the 5A South title.

Camden Fairview has five starters returning on the offensive side of the ball for the 2016 season. The Camden Fairview offense will be running out of the spread for the upcoming season. The Cardinals’ running game will be powered by Chris Hargraves. Hargraves spent most of the season working from the defensive side of the ball. Camden Fairview fans should look for Jonathan McCoy to see some chances in the red zone. McCoy is a big target at 6’7” 215lbs and could become a force for the Cardinals.

The Cardinals’ defense is going to be the area of focus for most of the fans. The Camden defense gave up 33 points per game last season and that is a number that must come down. Camden Fairview fans should look for defensive end Kyron Hillard to continue to be a disruptive force for the Cardinals. Hillard amassed 52 tackles a year ago and has the potential to improve on those numbers this season. The defense has 7 starters returning so this unit has the potential to be a very strong part of the team.

Camden Fairview should make the playoffs and possibly challenge for the conference championship. The Cardinals’ offense should be a talented group that can stretch the field and the defense has the potential to be disruptive. I look for a solid season out of the Cardinals and possibly a playoff run.
