The regular season is over for DeSoto County football teams, with the exception of two squads who will continue into their respective playoffs, which begin Friday, Nov. 11.

Hernando in MHSAA 6A and Lake Cormorant in 5A will be involved in the postseason, which starts on the road for the Tigers and at home for the Gators.

Despite Friday's 60-47 loss to Columbus, Hernando finishes fourth in MHSAA 6A-1 and will travel to play MHSAA 6A-2's top seed Clinton in the first round.

Hernando is 9-3 overall and 4-3 in division action. Hernando's record includes a 2-0 forfeit win from Memphis Northside, which was unable to play a scheduled game on Aug. 19.

The Arrows, which finished the regular season with a record of 10-1 overall and 6-1 in the division, defeated Starkville 35-28 to wrap up the regular season Friday night.

The loss knocked Starkville out of the playoffs as Northwest Rankin claimed the tiebreaker for the division's fourth spot.

Other MHSAA 6A North Half first round games Friday night include Northwest Rankin at Tupelo, Warren Central at South Panola and Columbus at Madison Central.

The big loser in the MHSAA 6A-1 North Half playoffs was Horn Lake, which, despite a 21-7 season-ending win over Southaven, lost the three-way tiebreaker with Hernando and Columbus for the third or fourth seed. The Eagles finished fifth.

DeSoto County will host a playoff game Friday night when Lake Cormorant takes on Vicksburg in the MHSAA 5A North Half first round by virtue of its 31-20 regular season-ending victory over Oxford.

The win gave Lake Cormorant the number two seed from MHSAA 5A-1 and a home playoff game.

Game time will be at 7 p.m. Friday night.

In each classification, semifinals will be played Nov. 18 and the North Half finals will take place Nov. 25. State championships will be Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. in MHSAA 6A and Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. in MHSAA 5A.
