The Dolphins (4-2) already have lost two players for the remainder of the season and if players continue to go down may need a M.A.S.H. unit more than a training staff.

Mosley plays at Class 6A perennial power Niceville (4-1) Friday night at 7 p.m. while Bozeman (3-2) must travel to face the buzz saw that currently is Blountstown (4-1) in a battle of teams projected early to make the playoffs in Class 1A under this week’s points differential.

Also Friday, North Bay Haven (3-2) hosts Cottondale (4-1) for Homecoming at Gavlak Stadium and Rutherford (2-4) hosts Arnold (2-3) at Bozeman.

Mosley head coach Jeremy Brown said that freshman wide receiver Nyjah Gray broke his collarbone in the second quarter of the win over Arnold last week to join senior Jack Taylor as receivers out for the season.

Offensive lineman Darien Brown went down with a dreaded high ankle sprain and will miss tonight’s game.

The most crucial position is quarterback, where junior Michael Maddox, high ankle sprain, and freshman Liam Byrd, shoulder joint, both missed large stretches of last week. Byrd started and played the entire first half and Maddox made a cameo appearance during the first series of the third quarter.

Brown said that both will dress on Friday, and both have been practicing. Whether either plays, however, won’t be determined until game time and Josh Lingenfelter, normally a receiver who quarterbacked much of the second half against Arnold, remains a distinct option.

Then again, the Dolphins most likely will try and utilize tailback John Miller out of the Wildcat formation, considering that Miller scored both touchdowns in the 13-0 win, the first on a 99-yard sprint.

The good news is that Connor Cunningham is expected to return as place-kicker and handle kickoff duties. Because of Cunningham’s hand injury, however, Ben Pehr will continue to handle punts as Cunningham still can’t receive long snaps.

Starting tight end Matt Stephenson remains sidelined with a knee injury. Lingenfelter has been taking his place, so the quarterback availability could impact a number of positions.

Perhaps none of the personnel issues is as daunting as opponent Niceville, which has averaged 50 points per game in its four wins and suffered a blowout loss to a Texas powerhouse.
