EDMOND TEAMS BOUNCED OUT OF DISTRICTS

Memorial and North started the District Tourney off at noon on Wednesday in a series of games that ended Edmond’s softball season. The two teams were able to get an inning and a half finished before inclement weather delayed the game indefinitely. Despite Wednesday's short amount of game time, the two Edmond teams packed in their fair share of action in those three half-innings when the Lady Huskies and Bulldogs combined for 7 hits and 7 runs. Play resumed between the two on Thursday and read just as the three-previous meetings between the two had been written. Memorial and North were deadlocked at 6 going into the bottom of the sixth inning. After Jacee Minter led the inning off with a single to left, though, Kamryn Garvie sent a two-run homerun over the right field wall to break the bottleneck. Memorial was unable to answer in the top of the seventh, and North would eliminate the Lady Bulldogs from district play. Three of the team's four meetings had been decided by late-inning home runs with North's Kamri Heath, Amy Crabaugh and Kamryn Garvie all hitting go-ahead home runs against Memorial in the 6th inning or later. Choctaw saw an Edlam matchup as their first game on Thursday, too, when Deer Creek and Santa Fe played in an elimination game. The Lady Wolves had a chance, despite being down 6-2 headed into Santa Fe's final at bat, after Deer Creek Terin Ritz issued three walks to open the inning. Ritz was replaced by Caitlyn Wells, but Santa Fe's Syndey Everhart singled to left, scoring Loren Wright and Maddie Langley. The single left runners on the corners, with the winning run at the plate. Deer Creek catcher Rachelle Mengwasser had other plans, though, when she caught out Everhart's steal attempt on her way to second. The attempt would have put the tying run in scoring position, but Mengwasser's big answer, followed by an RBI-groundout from Santa Fe's Megan Mentzer, meant the Lady Wolves tying run, Chloe White, was all the way back at the plate with two outs. Wells retired White via fly-out, ending Santa Fe's season. The wins set the two schools up with matches against Moore and Choctaw, respectively. And, just like on Tuesday, the later games didn't go too nicely for Edmond's softball squads. North played again hosting Moore at 4 p.m., directly following their emotional win over Memorial. Perhaps drained from the investment into their earlier game, the North Lady Huskies never once led when they fell 11-6 to the Lady Lions. Despite the loss, North's Jacee Minter exploded from the plate when she went 4-4 in the contest with a home run and 3 doubles. That, combined with Minter's 2-3 against Memorial, meant Minter minted a minty .857 batting average with 6 extra-base knocks from North's leadoff slot in Thursday's elimination games. Deer Creek had the same experience when they faced off against Choctaw, the host of their regional. The top-seeded Lady Yellowjackets tagged the Antlers for 12 runs, run-ruling them in 5 innings. The day ended all fast pitch softball for Edmond schools, with all teams failing to advance past the district playoffs.
