Records: Muskogee 2-3, 1-1 6AII-2; Washington 5-1, 2-0 6AII-2.

Last week: Bixby 38, Muskogee 23; Washington 63, Sapulpa 0.

Last meeting: Muskogee 23, Washington 7 (2016).

Series record: Washington leads, 11-8.

Notes: It’s a must-win for Muskogee to retain hopes of repeating as district champs. It’ll be a battle of skill people. One matchup to watch is Diante Crutchfield. Muskogee’s leading receiver, against the Hornets’ best corner, senior Rylan McQuarters. The son of R.W. McQuarters, the Super Bowl-winning cornerback with the Giants in version XLII is also, like Crutchfield, a return specialist as well. McQuarters can get backup from safety Dax Hill, a junior and the younger brother of OSU running back Justice Hill. That could open up opportunities for another 100-yard plus receiving night from Quintevin Cherry. Roughers QB Jacob Medrano leads the area with 1,712 yards passing. Hornets QB Phillip Wheatley will look to add to his 1,000-plus passing yards. A diverse running game includes McQuarters. Washington has won three of the last four meetings and leads Class 6AII in scoring averaging 48 points per game. As reported Sunday, the Muskogee Athletic Hall of Fame will add eight at halftime: softball/baseball coach Darrell Wood, football/baseball standouts Robert Flanary and Joey Ballard, golfer Jim Hall, Paul Young Football League co-creator Robert J. Perkins, runner David Perry, softball/basketball standout Jenna (Miller) Smith and longtime cheer sponsor Sheila Hambrick.
