They’re still here.

The Booneville Bearcats caught a few breaks at the right time in last week’s 21-7 win over Ozark. And, after some hardships the last few years, they were probably due.

“Anytime you get in a big game it comes down to who is going to make some good plays,” Booneville coach Scott Hyatt said. “We were able to make some key plays at different times. Ozark is a good football team.”

The Hillbillies (3-2, 1-1) turned the ball over deep in Booneville territory in the first half. Then, after a tying touchdown, the Bearcats locked down on defense and cashed in on two of Carson Ray’s three touchdown runs en route to their fourth straight victory.

Defensively, the Bearcats limited Ozark to just 94 yards rushing and 193 total.

“Last year, we had some kids out of position, especially on defense,” Hyatt said. “I think we have some kids built to fit in in key positions. We’re playing a lot of juniors and sophomores, too, and we’re still pretty young.

“But I think they’re starting to figure things out.”

The Bearcats face Dover and Waldron the next two weeks before battling Dardanelle on Oct. 20.
