It didn’t take long for the Elkins Elks (3-1) to take command of their game against the Yellville-Summit Panthers Friday, scoring 22 unanswered first quarter points en route to a 46-12 victory.

Yellville was scoreless as they gave up the 22 points in the first quarter, and would score a touchdown to get six points on the board in the second; however, Elkins scored 16 points in the second to take a 38-6 lead headed into halftime.

The Elks continued their dominance right out of the gates from halftime, as junior running back Chance Jones returned a kick 70 yards down field for a touchdown to take a 44-6 lead with about 11 minutes left in the third quarter. Junior Chad Graham cut through to the end zone for the two-point conversion, giving the Elks the 46-6 advantage.

Yellville answered back quickly, scoring a touch down with about 9 minutes left in the game. The touchdown was the last of the game by either team.

For the Elks, sophomore quarterback Quinn McClain completed 10 of 12 passes for a total of 145 yards, scoring on two touchdowns. Jones led in yards, rushing for 90 and returning a kick for 81 for a total of 171 yards. Senior Layne Evans received for 110 yards.

Junior Dawson Tisdale led in tackles with five solo tackles and three assisted, followed by junior Logan Shoffit with five solo tackles and two assisted tackles. Both junior Cole Wilhite and senior Jace Shirley had one tackle each, and Evans and junior Camren Dunn each grabbed an interception.

The Elks will host Mountain View (0-4, 0-1) for their homecoming game this Friday. Last year, the Elks lost to Mountain View 30-23.
