The Pittsburg High School football team turned the page from the loss a week ago and got back into the win column with a 45-19 road victory over Fort Scott on Friday.

A back-and-forth affair swung in favor of the Purple Dragons halfway through the second quarter, as a quarterback Chase Curtis tallied five touchdowns throughout the contest en route to pulling away in the second half.

The Tigers began the game with a 10-play, 70-yard touchdown drive to take an early seven-point lead, but the Purple Dragons answered in their first offensive possession of the game to come to within 7-6.

Pittsburg began the scoring drive with a pass from Ty Roark to Jhalani Long on a reverse play to advance the ball into Fort Scott territory, before Brandis Evans broke free for a 33-yard touchdown run.

Fort Scott blocked the extra-point attempt following the touchdown to keep the lead at one.

The Tigers took the lead into the second quarter, but an interception by Jerek Butcher gave PHS the ball after the break.

PHS capitalized on the turnover, scoring on a 65-yard pass from Curtis to Dylan White to go up 12-7.

Fort Scott regained the one-point advantage on a 66-yard touchdown run, but Curtis found White again in the final minute of the first half on a two-yard touchdown pass to take a 19-13 lead.
