The Tahlequah volleyball team looked to be on its way to victory after a comeback win in the third set against Tulsa NOAH.

However, the Lady Tigers lost their momentum, losing both the fourth and fifth sets to fall 3-2 (23-25, 25-22, 26-24, 17-25, 9-15) to the Lady Jaguars at home on Tuesday. The Lady Tigers fall to 7-14 on the season.

Despite the loss, THS head coach Don Ogden found several positive things to take away from the night.

“Of course we would’ve liked to win, but I feel we are a better team after tonight,” Ogden said. “We saw this game as a way to kind of sharpen our sword. We always try to schedule them (because) NOAH always has good athletes and they have a good system, which makes them a tough matchup.”

The first set was indicative of the way the rest of the night would play out. The set started out in a back-and-forth affair, leading to a 6-6 tie. NOAH then went on a 4-0 run, prompting Ogden to call a timeout. After the timeout, the Lady Tigers managed to tie the score at 14.

While NOAH went on a 7-2 run to appear to put the game away, the Lady Tigers managed to take the lead back at 23-22. However, the Lady Jaguars went on one last run, scoring the last three points to win the game.

The Lady Tigers got off to a good start in the second set, riding momentum to an early 12-4 lead. NOAH wouldn’t quit, holding off all of Tahlequah’s runs as the game eventually led to a THS 24-22 lead. In the game point set, THS’s Preslee Keemer managed to block a NOAH hit, giving the Lady Tigers the win in the second set.

The third set was the best set of the night for the Lady Tigers. It was NOAH’s turn for a good start, notching an 8-3 run in the early stages. The Lady Tigers hit back with a 9-3 run to take a 12-11 lead.

The Lady Jaguars made another run to take a 22-17 lead, putting pressure on the Lady Tigers. Back to back killshots from THS Brooke Thomas and Kloe Bowin cut the lead to two. Thomas managed to score on a serve, Bowin landed another killshot, and with help from two errant NOAH serves, the Lady Tigers found themselves with a 25-24 lead. Bowin placed a nice hit in the front right corner to win the third set and put THS up 2-1.

Unfortunately for the Tigers, they were unable to find their rhythm in the fourth set, as NOAH cruised to a win the fourth set to force a fifth one.

The Lady Jaguars started the fifth set on an early run, going up 7-3. THS attempted a late rally but fell just short, as NOAH clinched the win in the fifth set.

“This was a good game for us,” Ogden said. “We kind of took it as a tough loss, but overall we played well. We have (a few more games) ahead of us that we can look forward to before the playoffs start (in a couple of weeks).”

The Lady Tigers will continue their season at home on Thursday against 6A Sapulpa (4-13). Game time is set for approximately 6:00 p.m.
