Wilmington High cross country runner Grace Mason excelled on Saturday.

Mason, just a freshman, broke her own school record during the Blue Devil Invitational. The event, hosted by Sharpsville, was held at Buhl Park.

Mason finished eighth in a time of 19:43. A total of 50 schools competed in the invitational. The Lady Greyhounds took 10th overall in the team standings.

Elise Hilton captured 49th in 21:21 for Wilmington and Mei Williams was 52nd in 21:25. Claudia DiMuccio (61st, 21:39) and Amber Morse (164th, 23:49) also competed for the Lady Greyhounds.

Wilmington’s boys team placed 22nd, led by Jacob Winters in 45th place in 17:43. Dakota Schuring (113th, 18:44), Dale Nestor (127th, 19:00), Kyle Erson (173rd, 19:44) and Michael Hoffman (205th, 20:16) also participated for the Greyhounds.

Emma Mason and Becka Book earned medals for Wilmington in the junior high race.

 

New Castle fares well

The Red Hurricane boys finished fourth out of 57 teams in the Buhl Park Invitational.

Anthony Litrenta notched an 11th-place time of 17:00 for New Castle, while Jonah Miller was 36th in 17:38. Zac Gibson took 44th in 17:42, Georgie Eggleston was 51st in 17:47 and Ryan Hunyadi claimed 65th in 18:04.

New Castle’s junior high boys team took 11th overall, led by Tyler Girman in 34th with a time of 10:03.

The Lady ‘Canes varsity team placed 17th overall.

Grace Goodlin finished 34th in 21:00 for New Castle and Zoey Ondako took 98th in 22:32. Anna Blundo (106th, 22:41), Marissa Polding (118th, 22:56) and Olivia Goodlin (160th, 23:45) also race for New Castle.

The Lady ‘Canes junior high squad finished seventh overall. Abby Ambrosini paced New Castle, placing 22nd in 10:52.

Boys soccerMohawk loses

The Warriors dropped a 10-0 WPIAL Section 1-1A road matchup to Sewickley Academy.

The Warriors (1-6, 2-7) trailed 4-0 at the half. Wally Romano made 10 saves in goal for Mohawk and Preston Renner added three.

 

Girls soccerLady Warriors fall

Mohawk came up short in a 4-2 Section 3-1A road decision against Riverside.

Kelly Clark and Jessica Matsukas scored one goal each for the Lady Warriors (1-4, 3-6)
