Frankfort High’s football team got off to a fast start and rode that momentum to a 45-15 win over Newport Friday night.

“That’s something we thought we could do,” FHS coach Craig Foley said of his team’s quick start. “We saw them on film, and they’ve been struggling.

“They don’t quit, but they go away from their game. We wanted to get ahead early, get them frustrated and capitalize on their mistakes.”

That’s just what the Panthers (4-2) did, rolling out to a 42-8 lead at halftime.

FHS led 14-0 after touchdown passes from Holt Hammons to DaJuan Davis and Jevon Bush, with Reed Miklavcic connecting on the point-after kicks.

“We were able to score,” Foley said. “Then we gave up a cheap touchdown, but I think that motivated the kids.”

Tremayne Jones scored on a 48-yard run, Brandon Mack had a touchdown run, and Hammons hit Davis with another touchdown pass to make the score 35-8 late in the first half.

The half ended with Bush returning an interception for a touchdown and a 42-8 lead.

Miklavcic hit a 33-yard field goal in the third quarter to send the game to a running clock.

“We did some good things, and we worked on some different things,” Foley said. “We played a lot of kids. We have young kids who have busted their butts in practice, and it was good to get them some good minutes.”
