The Three Rivers Bulldogs varsity football team defeated the Runge Yellowjackets Friday.

In their first regular-season home contest under new head coach/athletic director Arturo Lozano, the Bulldogs showed their excitement by getting out to a 41-0 lead going into halftime. The Bulldogs would eventually win 48-13.

The home team’s first touchdown of the contest was on a 21-yard pass from Brandon Conn to Alex Amaro. Just 24 seconds of game time later after a fumble recovery, Zach Zamzow punched it in from 17 yards out to give Three Rivers a 14-0 lead. The Bulldogs scored once more in the first period, this time on a 37-yard run from Zamzow.

Conn and Amaro connected once again in the second quarter, this time for a 35-yard touchdown to give the Bulldogs a 28-0 lead. Conn threw another touchdown pass in the quarter, this time to Brandon Silva to increase the lead to 34-0.

Zamzow ran the ball into the end zone one more time with 3 minutes, 30 seconds left in the half, giving his team a 41-0 lead at the half.

The second half was played a little more tightly, as the game script called for adjustments on both sides of the ball. Bradley Conn scored the Bulldogs’ final touchdown of the game on a 4-yard run with 7:30 remaining in the third quarter.

The Bulldogs’ defense would only give up two touchdowns on the night, and forced three fumbles to help the team get a decisive victory.

Brandon Conn finished with 109 passing yards and three touchdown passes. Amaro caught two balls for 31 yards and two trips to the end zone. Silva caught one pass, and made it count, as it went for a 63-yard touchdown.

The offensive line gave the running backs plenty of room to work with, and Zamzow made the most of it, gaining 211 yards on 13 carries, including carries of 51 and 45 yards, as well as three touchdowns.

Jason Cadena rushed nine times for 59 yards. Bradley Conn tallied 39 yards and one touchdown on eight rushes.

The Bulldogs will host the Woodsboro Eagles Friday, Sept. 22 (tonight), with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m.
