TWICE IS NICE FOR NORTH SOFTBALL AGAINST MEMORIAL

For the second time in as many meetings, the North Lady Huskies defeated the Memorial Lady Bulldogs after North scored seven runs in a big, top of the sixth that included a 2-run, Jacee Minter home run used to beat Memorial 12-4. Both teams scored once in the first inning, and North would tack on another in the top of the second after Kamri Heath reached first when she sent a single through the middle of the infield on the first pitch of the inning. Next up, North’s Evy Aud singled to left field, scoring Heath and giving the Lady Huskies an early, 2-1 lead. Memorial did show a short glimmer of hope in the bottom of the 4th, when they used a big rally to jump on top of their Edlam rivals. Minter, who started on the mound for North, allowed one runner to score after she was called for a baulk with the bases loaded. Memorial’s Crimson Davis then doubled to left, scoring two more Lady Bulldogs and giving Memorial a 4-2 lead. Aud replaced Minter on the mound for North after Davis’s 2-RBI double, and Aud retired the next two batters via strikeouts. The lead wasn’t Memorial’s for long; however, after Minter singled to lead off the top of the fifth. Minter was plated after an Amy Crabaugh walk advanced her to second and a Riah Smith single sent her across home. Next up, Kamri Heath singled to shallow left, scoring Crabaugh’s relief-runner, pushing the score to 5-2 for North. North added their final seven runs in the top of the sixth after Rachel Mathews reached first with a leadoff bunt. North punished the Lady Bulldogs for making 5 errors in the inning, especially so when Minter sent a pitch out of the park with Gracie Carpenter on first for a 2-RBI home run. Five more Lady Huskies scored after Minter’s homer, pushing the tally to 12-4 North. Memorial was unable to answer. Aud off-speed pitches baffle North’s Evy Aud earned the win in Monday night’s win after she replaced Minter while behind in the bottom of the fourth. Six of the 11 outs were strikeouts while Aud was on the mound, as Memorial had no answer for Aud’s off-speed pitches. The Lady Husky’s Jacee Minter went 3-5 from the plate on Monday, scoring twice and hitting a 2-run home run in the bottom of the sixth. Riah Smith, also from North, had 3 RBIs during the 12-4 win. Memorial’s Mary McKey is credited with the loss. North’s win comes in the middle of a trying time for Memorial. After a standout weekend from the Lady Bulldogs, Memorial began the week facing a tough incoming schedule. The Lady Bulldogs, composed of a young central core that includes a freshman and sophomore pitching and catching combination, are now forced to travel to Mustang twice at the end of this week, when they play Mustang on Thursday and compete in the COAC tournament on Friday and Saturday. Memorial, North, Santa Fe and Deer Creek will all be attending that tournament.
