MEMORIAL BOUNCES BACK WITH WIN AGAINST DEER CREEK

After a difficult showing at this weekend’s COAC Conference tournament, Edmond Memorial Softball bounced back to run rule the visiting and favored Deer Creek Antlers 10-0 on Monday behind a shut-out performance on the mound from underclassman Mary McKey. Neither team scored until the bottom of the third, when Memorial plated 6 runners in a rapid-fire attack on the visiting Edmond team. Karsen Heron started the barrage off when she doubled in Caylor Cole and Holly Heiner. Both Cole and Heiner reached base on infield bunts. Next, Crislyn Cole singled in another runner and Kendall Murphy also reached base. Mary McKey also crossed home in the inning, after she reached on a fielder’s choice scoring Murphy. The Lady Bulldogs added to their 5-0 lead in the next inning when Crislyn recorded another RBI on a single when she sent in Karsen, who reached on a lead-off single. Memorial finally ended the contest early in the next inning after McKey and Beth McAnaly hit back-to-back doubles. Next, Heiner doubled in McAnaly off the right field wall, and Crimson Davis reached on an infield hit. Davis cycled around the bases, eventually scoring on a passed ball that ended the game 10-0 in the bottom of the fifth. The win comes on the heels of a difficult COAC Conference Tournament for the Lady Bulldogs. They struggled on the diamond when they came in ranked as the tenth seed, and then went 1-4 on the weekend. Monday’s win puts the young team on the upswing; however, as Deer Creek was seeded third in the same tournament. Memorial hosted PC West at 5:45 on Tuesday for Senior Night festivities, but the Lady Bulldogs will now have to wait an entire week before hitting the diamond again, when they play in a three-way festival between Edmond Santa Fe and Jenks on Sept. 26, at Santa Fe.
