The Inola Longhorns opened district 3A-7 play with a 31-14 homecoming loss against the Jay Bulldogs Friday night.

Inola (2-3, 0-1) has next week off and then returns to action with a tough test at Lincoln Christian on Friday, Oct. 6. Jay is 4-1, 1-0.

The Bulldogs had a solid team effort in picking up the win. Lance Jones finished with 112 rushing yards on 16 carries and had one touchdown for the Longhorns.

Jay got the first points of the game, courtesy of a 31-yard field goal from Adan Becerra at the 3:14 mark of the first quarter.

Inola answered on the ensuing drive. Jones finished things off with a 3-yard touchdown run and then tossed the two-point try to Jordan Spurlock with 29 seconds left in the first period.

The Bulldogs came right back. Gabe Simpson rifled a 34-yard touchdown pass to Konnor Culver and then connected with Daylon Simpson on the two-point conversion just 74 seconds into the second quarter.

Jay extended to an 18-8 advantage when lineman John Culver scored on a 34-yard touchdown run on a fourth-and-10 play with 6:41 remaining in the second period.

The Longhorns closed within 18-14 after a 9-yard touchdown pass from Landen Prows to Spurlock at the 5:53 mark of the third quarter.

That score came on a fourth down play and a little earlier on the drive Prows hooked up with Matthew Trolinger for a 31-yard gain on another fourth down near midfield.

Jay responded on its ensuing possession though. Keng Vang finished things off on a 4-yard touchdown run with 2:06 remaining in the third period.

Weaver Fisher then punched one in for the Bulldogs from eight yards out with 7:44 left in the fourth quarter for the final margin.
