TULSA – The Sand Springs cross country boys are making a statement early in the season.

Jaelyn Jackson led the Sandites to a second place finish at the Booker T. Washington meet, Thursday, Sept. 14 at O’Brien Park.

Jackson won the meet, placing first with a time of 17:03, and the Sandites had six of their seven runners finish in the top 20. Ian Baustert was sixth with a time of 17:41, and Aden Baughman was 8th at 17:52. They had three in the top 10, and Nelson Yazzie just missed with an 11th place finish.

Owaso won the meet, Sand Springs took second and Bishop Kelley third.

Sand Springs has finished in the top five in all three meets this season.

The Sand Springs girls finished in sixth place, their second-best finish of the season. The Lady Sandites took fifth at Sapulpa in the season opener.

Sara Abbet led Sand Springs with a time of 23:05, and Chezney Kelley was right behind her at 24:51. The team had an average time of 25:35 and Abbet was the only one to finish in the top 20, earning 15th place.

Elizabeth Watts was 36th at 25:10, Madelynn Adams 46th at 27:24 and Erika Baker 47th at 27:24.

Owasso won the meet, Bishop Kelley took second and Bixby third.
