Deer Creek riding wave of success

When volleyball coach Lisa Polcovich arrived at Deer Creek in 2015, the program was looking for some stability.

More than a handful of coaches in as many years can do that to a program.

Polcovich, in her fourth season, now looks at the Antlers and is just amazed. They're undefeated No. 1 in Class 6A.

“The thing is with these girls is they're competitors,” Polcovich said. “They're hard workers. They're buying into what we want Deer Creek volleyball to be. They've done a great job.”

Deer Creek has won 12 straight matches entering this weekend's tournament at Edmond Santa Fe. It has wins over powers Mount St. Mary and Edmond North, too.

The Antlers are hoping that can translate to more than just a state tournament berth.

A big reason for that is the play of senior Lauren Anthony, who has committed to play at John Hopkins.

“She's a big role in our offense and our defense because she puts up a really good block,” Polcovich said.
