Bartlesville High School’s volleyball team came into this weekend’s home tournament without a win.

The Lady Bruins ended that streak with two wins on Friday and pushed a ball-hammering Yukon team to the limit in a Saturday showdown at the Bruin Fieldhouse.

On Friday, Bartlesville seized its first season victory by sweeping Tulsa Washington, 25-19, 25-21, 25-21.

The Lady Bruins next turned back Putnam City, 25-17, 11-25, 25-18, 23-25, 15-10.

Shawnee dealt Bartlesville its lone Friday loss, 25-21, 25-12, 25-20.

The Lady Bruins returned Saturday morning to face a Yukon team that had gone 3-0 on Friday in Pool A.

Favored Yukon had to dig deep to get past Bartlesville, 25-18, 20-25, 25-14, 25-16.

In some other Friday results, Shawnee finished 3-0 in Pool B and the Bishop Kelley JV Red carved out a 2-1 mark.

Following are summaries of Bartlesville’s morning match against Yukon:

Yukon, 25-18

This game stayed tight most the way.

Yukon threatened to pull away by going up five points, 17-12, but Lady Bruin senior Callie Krause scored on a tip — which caught the top of the net and fooled the defense — to trigger a brief Bartlesville run, which included a service point by Presley Burch, to narrow the margin to three points, 18-15.

Bartlesville later got back within three, 20-17, on a kill by Alli Wood.

However, Yukon finished up the game with a 5-1 run.

Bartlesville, 25-20

In one of their finest games of the season, the Lady Bruins enjoyed major contributions from hitters Sarah Covell, Krause and Lydia Knollmeyer.

Knollmeyer’s kill triggered a 10-3 run by the Lady Bruins.

During that stretch, Covell smashed a laser shot that landed just inside the back line.

Burch also went on a long service turn during which Bartlesville took the lead.

Brooke Bluhm scored one of those points during a volley that featured a big league save by Megan Kirchner to keep the ball alive.

By the time Burch was forced off the serving line Bartlesville led 13-10.

Yukon blitzed back into the lead, 15-14, forcing Bartlesville head coach Tom Williams to call timeout.

Following the break, Knollmeyer made a fiery kill that tied the score, 15-15, and put Kaitlyn Smith on the serving line. Smith tallied one winner to push the Lady Bruins ahead, 16-15.

The teams then traded points, including kills by Bartlesville’s Hannah Linzy and Covell.

The Bruins led, 19-17, when Paige Sauer got a serving turn. She served for three points, one of them scored by Covell and another on a block by Krause and Bluhm, to stretch the Bartlesville lead to 22-17.

Covell produced two more kills down the stretch to carry the Lady Bruins on her shoulders to the win.

Yukon, 25-14

It appeared that Bartlesville might be tiring a little bit — but kept clawing away.

This game was not nearly as lopsided as it appeared.

Linzy made a key kill and Smith served an ace that helped Bartlesville nudge back within two points, 15-13.

However, Yukon went on a 10-1 run — Bartlesville tallied its only point on Knollmeyer kill from the right angle — to wrap up the game.
