NICHOLS PICKS UP WHERE SHE LEFT OFF IN 2016; VANAMAN SECOND PLACE AT HOME XC?MEET

Nobody else really stood a chance in the girls varsity race at the Claremore Cross Country Invitational at Claremore Lake. Defending state champion Laynie Nichols did her job by winning the individual race in 20:49. Katelyn Alexander and Kassidy Hannah also did their job by finishing second and fourth, respectfully, leading the Lady Zebras to an easy win. The Claremore boys got a great showing by Andrew Vanaman, who finished second overall, but the Zebras finished fourth as a team behind champion Pryor, Booker T. Washington and Collinsville. Noah Klepczyk of Claremore Sequoyah led the Eagles with an 11th place time of 19:28. Catoosa was paced by Edgar Garcia, who placed 14th in a time of 19:43. Pryor won the junior varsity boys race with 35 points, followed by Claremore in second with 40. Blake Phillippi and Ethan Stevenson finished second and third, respectively. Inola’s Zach Biggs won the race in 19:44. Erin and Lauren Kuykendall of Claremore finished 1-2 in the 5K JV girls race. Bailey Pritchett and Sophie McCall finished third and fourth. Tori Wood of Sequoyah was runner-up in the two-mile girls race in 13:33. Vinita edged Inola in the two-mile JV girls race. Inola’s Emily Thacker was second and Sidney Riedl was fourth.
