Good quarterback play usually goes a long way toward winning.

That’s true of the Ozark Hillbillies.

Junior Dawson Dietz has been as good as advertised two games into the season, and it’s no wonder Ozark is 2-0 as they prepare for the Charleston Tigers.

“He works at it,” Ozark coach Jeremie Burns said. “He goes to quarterback camps and he was out there this spring after basketball. He’s really committed himself.”

Dietz has plenty of targets, and a good running game doesn’t hurt, either. In last week’s win over Clarksville, he found Bryant Burns in the flat for a 37-yard pass play that led to the Hillbillies’ first touchdown.

He also threw a pair of TD passes to Hayden Atkinson and another to Brandon Sheffield.

It’s early, but Dietz has passed for 396 yards and five touchdowns.

“He’s gotten a whole better with his reads,” Burns said. “He knows where his first, second and third reads are.”

Ozark (2-0) will host Charleston (2-0) Friday in a battle of unbeatens.
