Sand Springs went 5-0 in the Bixby Tournament this past weekend, and they weren’t really tested in those five games.

The Charles Page High School fast-pitch softball team is now 15-2 on the season, and they play district foes Ponca City and Broken Arrow this week.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 9
Sand Springs 12, Jenks 2: Kimi Presnell set the tone in a 12-2 hammering of Jenks in Sand Springs’ final game of the Bixby Tournament, Saturday, Sept. 9.

Presnell, a junior second baseman, hit a triple in the bottom of the first inning, and it just snowballed from there. The Lady Sandites scored 12 runs in the inning thanks to doubles from Liz Luttrell and Jacie Taber, and triples from Presnell and Sabrina Usher.

Usher, a sophomore catcher, hit a triple that scored Presnell and Makenna Skaggs.

Junior pitcher Madelyn Blair (4-2) threw all four innings with three hits, two runs, two strike outs and two walks. She was also 3-3 at the plate, and Luttrell was 2-3 with an RBI.

Sand Springs 8, Union 1: The Union Lady Redskins took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but Sand Springs scattered 11 hits, scoring eight runs in five innings.

Taber, a junior pitcher, threw all five innings with two hits, one run and seven strike outs. She is now 10-0 on the mound this season.

Presnell was 3-4 at the plate with one RBI, and Makenna Skaggs was 1-3 with two RBIs.

Sand Springs tied the game in the bottom of the second, and they scored two in the third, four in the fourth and one in the fifth.

FRIDAY, SEPT. 8
Sand Springs 6, Cushing 3: The Lady Sandites scored most of their runs in the first inning, attempting to put the game away early.

Sand Springs scored five runs in the top of the first inning in a 6-3 win over Cushing, Friday, Sept. 8.

The Lady Tigers answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning, but that would be all they could score for the rest of the game.

Blair threw the entire game with five hits, three runs, one strike out and three walks.

Usher was 2-3 at the plate with one run and one RBI. Skaggs also hit a double.

Sand Springs 5, Glenpool 2: The Glenpool Lady Warriors took an early lead in the first inning and extended it to 2-0 in the second. However, Sand Springs tied the game in the bottom of the second and then took the lead in the third in a 5-2 win.

In the bottom of the third, Taber hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Felicity Horn, and Presnell hit a sacrifice bunt to score Cameron Clemons, giving the Lady Sandites a 4-2 lead. In the bottom of the fourth, Blair hit a double to score Usher.

Sand Springs 12, Tulsa Edison 0: Pitcher Rachel Jones got the win in a game that went only two-and-a-half innings.

The Lady Sandites scored 12 runs in the bottom of the second, and it was over as quickly as it began. Presnell was 3-3 at the plate with one run, three RBIs, and Taber was 1-2 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Horn hit a triple, and Blair and Usher hit doubles.

Sand Springs also left five runners on base.


THURSDAY, SEPT. 7
Sand Springs 5, Stillwater 4: Jacie Taber got herself into a few jams against Stillwater, but she always seemed to get herself out, and she had a little help from her defense.

Taber, a junior pitcher, gave up six hits, struck out four, but walked nine batters in a 5-4 district win over Stillwater, Thursday, Sept. 7 at the Sandite Sports Complex.

Taber (8-0) allowed the Lady Pioneers to get on base, but they rarely crossed the plate. Stillwater stranded 10 batters in a district game that had two ties and four lead changes.

With the game tied at 4-4 in the bottom of the seventh, Makenna Skaggs hit a walk-off single that ended the game, 5-4. Skaggs hit a line drive to the shortstop and Cameron Clemons beat the throw home for the win.

Skaggs was impressive at the plate, going 3-5 with one big RBI. Sabrina Usher was 2-4 with an RBI, Kimi Presnell 2-4 with an RBI, and Jensen Arnold 3-2 with an RBI.

The game was scoreless until Arnold’s RBI double that scored Clemons. Presnell then hit a sacrifice fly to score Rachel Jones for the 2-0 Lady Sandite lead.

Stillwater tied the game in the top of the third, but Usher’s double scored Presnell for the 3-2 advantage.

Felicity Horn extended the lead to 4-2 on a single to center field, but Stillwater tied the game in the top of the sixth.

Skaggs then hit the game-winning single in the bottom of the seventh inning.
