SEQUOYAH — Fielding errors and mental mistakes cost Sequoyah dearly, leading Pryor to a 7-2 softball victory over the Lady Eagles on Tuesday.

Four home team errors produced four unearned runs for the Class 5A Lady Tigers, leading to their sixth victory in five games and dropping the Eagles to 5-3.

Sequoyah pitcher Ariel Thompson struck out 11 batters, but gave up eight hits, including a titanic two-run homer by the Tigers’ Mikayla Hillman in the sixth inning. The Eagles spanked seven hits off Pryor ace Olivia Rains, who fanned six while adding two hits at the plate with two runs batted in.

Thompson and first baseman Kaleigh Jones each contribute a pair of hits for the Eagles.

Sequoyah came within 4-1 in the fifth inning after Hannah Morgan slammed a base hit up the middle. Kennedi Christian came on to run for Morgan and scored from third when shortstop Callie Schultz ripped a single to left field.

In the sixth, the Lady Eagles’ second run resulted from Thompson’s base hit and Jones driving her to third with a blow to right field. Thompson scored on a fielder’s choice.

A Sequoyah error in the first inning led to Pryor’s first run. After reaching second base on a throwing error, Haley Nichols was driven home on Rains’ double down the third-base line. Two more Eagles’ errors led to two runs in the second. They scored when left fielder Olivia Cummings singled to left field.

In the fifth inning, Rains floated a sacrifice fly to drive in Nichols from third, giving the Tigers a 4-0 lead. Pryor followed with three additional runs in the sixth.

Sydney Wood singled to start the inning, then Hillman stepped to the plate and placed a towering shot over the center field fence. Later in the frame, right fielder Sami Dale tallied on a wild pitch, giving Pryor a 7-1 lead.
