North Wilkes cruised to its second straight Mountain Valley Athletic Conference victory Tuesday evening in Hays, dispatching Wilkes Central 3-0.
The Vikings improved to 5-6 overall and 2-0 in league play, winning their sixth-straight conference set to start the Mountain Valley season after a brutal non-conference slate.
North won set one 25-15, bolstered by strong service runs from Sapphire Nichols and Courtney Holbrook early and Raygan Casstevens late.
The second set was similar, with the home team prevailing 25-16. Holbrook helped North score three straight points to open the set, and that advantage held for the rest of the set, as the Vikings slowly pulled away.
Avery Wood started the third set with a tremendous kill from the left, setting the tone in what would become a match-ending 25-9 victory.
Wilkes Central fell to 1-7 overall and 0-2 in league play. Senior Holly Swofford and freshman Malaya Cowles played well for the Eagles in the loss.
