Ridgerunners High School Football kicks off the season in full swing tonight at 7 p.m., against Sequoyah in Claremore.

Coach Ron Culwell shared the season roster but was still finalizing his starting lineup as of presstime.

The only thing that is certain is Grove’s starting Quarterback will be Davis Dills a senior who is coming back after an injury early last season that forced him to sit out of much of the year.

Dills is doing well and Culwell said he is fully recovered from his injury and expects to play the full season with the Ridgerunners.

Culwell said his team is “healthy” and has been performing well in early season scrimmages.

The Ridgerunners played a quarter against Sallisaw earning a first drive field goal and a second drive score.

Grove allowed no points scored against them and made one interception for the short matchup with Sallisaw.

In their other pre-season matchup against Pryor the Ridgerunners ended in a tie after scoring, then allowing a pump fake resulting in a long bomb score.

“Defensively we played well and there are things we need to do to get better,” Culwell said before the first district game against Catoosa on Sept. 22.

While Culwell might still be working out their starting lineup, he said the team has been able to successfully “control our own line of scrimmage.”

Ridgerunners football will see their first two games of the season away from home with this year’s rival matchup against the Bulldogs in Jay next week in the annual Delaware County Bowl..

Grove will host its first home game against Stillwell on Sept. 15 and the homecoming game is against Vinita on Sept. 29.

In the meantime Culwell plans to keep his team “hungry for the next game.”
