Ozark quarterback Dawson Dietz has so many weapons it’s hard to decide which one to call on.

Fortunately, coach Jeremie Burns does it for him.

Dietz threw a 57-yard touchdown pass to Hayden Atkinson as part of a 21-point second-quarter blitz Friday as Ozark rolled to a 42-28 win over the Clarksville Panthers in the 103rd meeting between the two schools.

Dietz finished with three touchdown passes.

“We have tremendous weapons,” Dietz said. “Bryant (Burns) had a huge game last week, so we knew they (Clarksville) were going to gameplan for Bryant, and they did. They double-teamed him all night. Hayden and (Brandon) Sheffield and (Ethan) Foster, they stepped up big for us.”

“Dawson threw the ball well, the receivers made plays, and the line blocked good,” Jeremie Burns said. “I knew it was going to be a battle with those guys and their offense. It seemed like the first half took forever.”

Dietz threw two third-quarter touchdowns to Sheffield and Atkinson to give the Hillbillies a 42-14 lead.

But Clarksville kept control of the football for much of the half as sophomore quarterback Nick Buckner led the team on two fourth-quarter touchdowns, including his own 42-yard jaunt.

Mike Powell also had a 43-yard run off a misdirection snap, pulling the Panthers to within 14 with three minutes left.

“These guys don’t have a quit in them, but the problem is getting started early,” Clarksville coach Khris Buckner said. “We’re giving up too many big plays. We’d get a stop, stall out on offense, and then they would hit a big play. We’re starting so many young guys; we just have to get more consistency.”

Bryant Burns set up the team’s first touchdown with a 37-yard catch and run play to the Panthers’ 5. Two plays later, Woolsey scooted in from the 7.

But Clarksville responded with a 14-play, 73-yard scoring drive that included a mix of running and passing. Sophomore quarterback Nick Buckner fed Colton Gregory on the time-consuming drive, with Gregory capping things with a 1-yard run at the 10:43 mark of the first half.

Dietz, however, defused the momentum with a three-play, 65-yard scoring drive, capped by Atkinson’s 57-yard touchdown at the 10:24 mark.

Dietz threw for 123 yards in the first half, and he might have had more had Ethan Foster not turned the wrong way on a pass that fell harmlessly to the turf.

Ozark did counter, however, with a 61-yard scoring drive following Hayden Atkinson’s interception. Dietz’s 34-yard dash led to Burns’ 8-yard touchdown run and a 21-7 lead with 7:41 left in the half.

The Hillbillies added a late second quarter TD on Eddie Graham’s 1-yard plunge with 16 seconds left in the half.

Dietz’s 52-yard strike to Atkinson made it 42-7 with nine minutes left in the third quarter. The Ozark junior then hit Sheffield on a 16-yard touchdown pass to make it 42-14.
