t was quite a debut for new head football coach Jarrett Hurt last year.

The Zebras took their new coach, new helmets and new attitude to Tulsa and blasted East Central 47-6 in the 2016 season opener.

It was a good start for the Zebras, and kicked off a 6-4 regular season campaign that got the boys in stripes back into the playoffs.

This year, East Central looks to be the kickstart the Zebras will use again.

While this is Claremore’s season opener, East Central already has one game under its belt. But its 47-0 loss to Collinsville probably didn’t do East Central any favors.

In that game, Collinsville scored 29 second quarter points, ran back two interceptions for touchdowns and basically wore a path to the end zone. Five different backs scored rushing touchdowns on East Central as the team compiled more than 300 yards on the ground.

East Central quarterback Isaiah Tyson had a rough go against Collinsville. He threw four straight interceptions during Collinsville’s 29-point second quarter. He ran for 25 yards to lead the team.

Last year, Claremore forced six turnovers and built a 27-0 at the half. Ironically, East Central was coming off a 47-0 loss to Collinsville last year as well.

Game time is 7 p.m.

This is a non-district game as is next week’s game at Rogers, Ark., and the following week at home against Tulsa Edison.
