Put a Band-Aid over the hurt, maybe blow it a kiss, and move on.

That’s about all the Claremore Lady Zebra softball team can do after being drummed 10-0 by visiting Pryor Thursday evening.

Lady Tiger pitcher Olivia Rains struck out 13 batters and held Claremore scoreless for the first time this season.

The only two base hits by Claremore were claimed by Alexis Williams and Kayla Shisler, the first two hitters in the lineup.

From that point on it was all Rains.

A sacrifice bunt moved the runners to third and second bases, but Rains answered with her first two Ks. Following a third whiff to open the next inning, Rains walked Rylee Vanaman on four pitches.

The next 17 Zebra batters went down in order.

As has been a frequent occurrence this season, Claremore once again fell behind two runs in the first inning.

Pryor opened the contest with two singles, a double, and a hit batter to take a quick edge.

This time there would be no comeback.

Zowie Davis, taking her turn as the Zebras’ starting pitcher, settled down once past that string. She matched Rains straight up over the next four innings. From the third out of the first inning to the first out of the sixth Davis retired 14 Pryor hitters.

An infield error let slugger Kennady Crammer reach base to open the fourth, but a double-play took care of that.

While the two-run edge would prove to stand up, the Pryor side didn’t want to take any chances. Maybe the players had heard of Claremore’ last inning seven-run winning rally earlier in the week.

To assure a happy trip back home, Pryor pounded out nine base hits during the last two innings.

The result was good for three runs in the sixth and five more for frosting on the game cake in the top of the seventh.

Kaleigh Schumacher replaced Davis in the sixth with one out.

Providing the bulk of the Tiger offense were Rains and Crammer.

In addition to her pitching performance Rains knocked in four runs with a pair of doubles.

She scored three times having also been hit by the pitch back in the first. Crammer doubled twice also and singles, scoring three runs and knocking in three more.

The defeat stopped a four-game winning streak for Claremore.

The Zebras are now 10-7 for the year.
