Frankfort High and Shelby County both scored goals in the final seconds of a period during the Rotary Capital City Classic girls soccer tournament Saturday.

Unfortunately for FHS, Shelby scored in the last three seconds of overtime, giving the Lady Rockets a 2-1 victory at Sower Soccer Complex.

The Lady Panthers picked up a goal from senior Ellen Williams in the final minute of the first half for a 1-0 lead at the break.

The score stayed 1-0 until a goal from Shelby’s Meagan Kingsolver tied the match with 20 minutes left in regulation.

“In the first half I thought we came out completely lost,” FHS coach Daniel Rogers said. “I thought we played better in the second half. We got caught in transition a few times, and the last time it got us.”

That’s when Kingsolver scored her second goal of the match for the 2-1 win.

FHS’ Kennadie Pritchett said her team’s improved play in the second half could be seen in the 50-50 balls.

“We had a bunch of those,” she said. “We played more aggressive.”

Playing the last 20 minutes with the match tied didn’t faze Pritchett.

“I didn’t panic,” she said. “When you panic you get stressed and stop playing your game.”

Saturday’s win was the first of the season for the Lady Rockets, who are now 1-4.

Frankfort (2-4) plays its next match Monday at Gallatin County.

“I knew coming in this would be a fairly matched game,” Rogers said. “The difference in the other two (tournament) games is we stuck to our game plan. We still lost, but we stuck to our game plan. I thought we came in tonight a little lost.

“It’s a learning experience. It’s a painful learning experience, but it’s a learning experience.”

• Frankfort’s Kiani Tatum and Andi Mantor, and Kingsolver and Savannah Stovall of Shelby County were named to the all-tournament team.
