Meridian, TX - This offseason, the Meridian Yellow Jackets had to sit on a bitter defeat at the hands of Tenaha to end their season in the second round a year ago.

When they opened camp on Monday, Coach Chris Roberts was happy with the turnout and the energy they worked out with knowing they have some unfinished playoff business.

"We got some good experience," he said. "We've got a lot of guys that played some snaps for us last year, and guys that are hungry, to come out here and do what we did last year but do it even better."

Quarterback John Anderson saw first-hand what it takes to succeed in the playoffs and that's the standard for this team moving forward.

"We're all really hungry for this season," he said. "Bremond is number one in our district. We're going to play for Frost, but we're going to play to beat Bremond, beat Tenaha, and go on and play in December. That's what we want to do."

Wide receiver and defensive back Derek Malott is eager to see his guys take that next step.

"You know we've got to make it farther than we did," he said. "We're going t be motivated because we haven't been that far in a long time. We've got to keep going and going further and further."

Meridian Opens the season on September 1st against Reicher Catholic.
