Alexander Central 28, Wilkes Central 6
The Wilkes Central Eagles held the Alexander Central Cougars scoreless in the second half on Friday night in Moravian Falls but the Cougars did the same and did all their damage in the first half.
Ultimately, the Cougars moved to 2-0 with a 28-6 win while the Eagles fell to 1-1.
Alexander Central scored on each of its first four possessions as running back Tevin Clark finished off the first two with touchdown runs and quarterback Gunnar Anderson ran in the second two. For the Eagles, freshman running back JoRaye Morrison scored the lone touchdown on a 41-yard run in the second quarter.
The Eagles nearly scored again right before halftime but running back Tyler Boles was stopped on the 1-yard line as time expired.
For the game, Clark ran for 84 yards for the Cougars and Anderson went 8-for-11 for 187 yards with a long of 46. For the Eagles, Jasiah Ferguson played quarterback for Camden Wyatt, who is still recovering from an injury. Ferguson went 10-for-16 for 119 yards and one interception.
Boles went over 100 yards for the second week in a row as he finished with 115 on 21 carries. Morrison added 60 yards on six carries. Skylar Brooks was Ferguson's top target as he had six catches for 92 yards.
