A three-run sixth inning propelled Tahlequah to a 4-1 road win over Collinsville Tuesday in a District 5A-4 fastpitch matchup.

Lanie Sanders hit a two-run double that brought home Emily Sampson and Hannah Boswell to break a 1-1 tie, and Bailey Wright followed with an RBI-single that drove in Sanders for the game’s final run.

Sampson started the rally with a leadoff walk, and Boswell and Sanders responded with back-to-back doubles before Wright’s run-scoring single.

The Lady Tigers improved to 7-0 overall and 2-0 in district play under interim head coach Matt Cloud. They were coming off a pair of Saturday home wins over Skiatook and Fort Gibson.

Sanders settled in from the pitcher’s circle after allowing Collinsville’s lone run in the opening frame. She went on to pitch five consecutive scoreless innings and closed with three strikeouts while allowing four hits. Sanders retired the final six batters she faced to shut the door on the Lady Cardinals.

Sampson got Tahlequah even during the third with a solo home run to left field on the first pitch she saw.

The Lady Tigers finished with eight hits and were led by freshman Betty Danner’s 2 for 3 performance. Danner had singles in the second and fourth innings.

Kennedy Davis and Hailey Sams had Tahlequah’s other hits. Davis singled to start the contest, and Sams doubled to left with two outs in the second.

The loss is Collinsville’s first in district play as the Lady Cardinals slip to 2-1. They fall to 2-6 overall. Tahlequah defeated Collinsville, 6-0, on Aug. 8 in Pryor.

Cloud’s group will take on Checotah and Stillwater Saturday at the Stillwater Festival. The Lady Tigers return home to face Bishop Kelley/Cascia Hall at 5 p.m Monday in district action.
