The Yukon volleyball team went to Russelville, Ark., last week to compete in the Arkansas Tech Team Camp.
The Millerettes had 39 total girls at the camp from Sunday through Tuesday.
This was the fourth-consecutive year Yukon has gone to the Arkansas Tech Team Camp.
The camp consists of a varsity and junior varsity tournament.
The varsity division had 12 teams and the junior varsity division had eight teams.
Yukon was the only out-of-state team in attendance. Numerous schools from the 6A and 7A classes in Arkansas were in attendance.
For the first time since the Millerettes have been coming to this camp, the varsity squad eanred a spot in the Gold Bracket with a record of 7-3 on the first day and taking
second-place in their pool. In bracket play,
Yukon lost to the camp champion North Little Rock 23-25 and 24-26.
The junior varsity group went 10-6 at the camp and took on Lakeside in the Silver Bracket Championship and won in two sets 25-19 and 25-22.
Yukon also had a freshmen group compete in the junior varsity division. The freshmen team started off with a tough 5-25 first-set loss to Bentonville but they rebounded to win the second set 25-23.
Yukon coach Rachel Allred was pleased with her team’s performance in Arkansas.
“Overall, this was our most successful Arkansas Tech Team Camp as a program,” Allred said. “I am always very proud of how our girls stay tough and determined during long two days of games and these girls are all a pleasure to work with. They are respectful, hard-working and have great attitudes. Even during difficult games and when everyone is tired, they were able to build each other up and keep focused on our goals. This camp was a great preview of how awesome the upcoming season will be, and the girls and I are very excited to get started.
“The freshmen showed a lot of resilience and really grew as a group during the two days of play.”
Another successful venture for the Yukon volleyball program was their Yukon Middle School Volleyball Summer Camp with 33 campers in attendance. The Yukon High School Volleyball Summer camp had 41 attendees from July 10-13.
The Millerettes began preseason practice Monday. YMS will have its second tryout on Aug. 3 from 6-8 p.m. at the main gymnasium at the middle school. All of the volleyball game schedules can be found at www.yukonps.com under athletics and volleyball.
