The Mayde Creek Girls Varsity Track Team competed at the El Campo Ricebird Relays in El Campo on Friday, March 11. The girls had a great showing and brought home the 3rd place plaque.
The meet kicked off to a great start with the field events. Senior Samara Hodges won the High Jump competition with a personal best and top in the state jump of 5’10". (picture attached) Sophomore Shania Steptoe placed 6th in the competition with a jump of 4’10".
Junior Syntyche Laguerre won the Triple Jump with a distance of 37-00.
Laguerre brought home the bronze medal in the Long Jump with a jump of 17-04.
Junior Sandra Cortez had a wonderful performance in Discus with a throw of 92-03.25, placing her 4th. Junior Olivia Harolds placed 6th in the event with a throw of 86-01.75.
In Shot Put, Freshman Tolu Osunsade placed 6th with a distance of 32-03.50.
In the running events, Samara Hodges placed 4th in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.72.
Freshman Alessa King raced hard in the 400 meter dash, placing 4th with a personal best time of 61.53.
The 4X200 meter relay team finished in 3rd place with a time of 1:46.53. Relay members in-cluded: Danielle Ingram, Samara Hodges, and Syntyche Laguerre.
The girls competed hard in their events and more personal records and season bests were earned! The Varsity Girls will be back in action on Thursday, March 24 at the CFISD Relays at Cy Fair High School.
