MCHS GIRLS VARSITY TRACK UPDATE - BLUEBONNET RELAYS

MCHS Girls Varsity Track Update - Bluebonnet Relays

The Mayde Creek Girls Varsity Track Team competed extremely well at the Bluebonnet Relays at Cub Stadium in Brenham on Friday, April 1. The girls placed 4th with 58 points behind 1st place Stratford who had 67. If we would have run a full squad, the girls would have easily won the meet.

The Lady Rams had a strong showing in field events. In Discus, Sandra Cortez had a nice performance and placed 2nd with a personal best throw of 105-09. Ashley Lee placed 4th in the event with a throw of 88-03 and Olivia Harolds finished in 5th with a distance of 87-08.

Shania Steptoe earned the bronze medal in the High Jump competition with a jump of 5’4”.

In Triple Jump, Syntyche Laguerre had a jump of 35-11, placing 2nd in the event. Gizelle Cook had a distance of 32-11, good for 5th place.

Tolu Osunsade placed 6th in Shot Put with a throw of 32-06.

Hailey Williams had a strong performance in the 100 meter hurdles, winning the event with a time of 14.95.

Alessa King had a nice performance in the 400 meter dash, running a time of 63.70 and placing 6th.

In the final race of the night, the 4X400 meter relay placed 2nd with a season best time of 4:16.76, just milliseconds behind the first place team who ran in a different heat. Relay members included: Danielle Ingram, Syntyche Laguerre, Jackie Gonzalez, & Alessa King. All 4 girls competed strong and had awesome finishes.

The Lady Rams also had two girls competing at the Nike Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin. Javlyn Cameron competed in the 100 meter hurdles and Samara Hodges competed in the High Jump.

Javlyn placed 6th in a very strong 100 meter hurdle field with a time of 14.16.

Samara had a jump of 5-05.50 in the High Jump event. Her jump tied with 2nd place, but based on missed attempts she finished in 6th place.

The Varsity Girls will be back in action at the District 19-6A Championship Meet on April 12, 13 & 15 at Tompkins High School.

Please congratulate the girls when you see them. Thank you for all your support and what you do for our athletes!
