The Mayde Creek Girls Varsity Track Team competed at the Waller Bulldog Relays in Waller on Friday, February 26. The girls had a nice showing and brought home the 3rd place plaque, without even running two relays at the meet!
The meet kicked off to a great start with the field events. Senior Samara Hodges easily won the High Jump competition with a state ranked jump of 5’8”. (picture below) Earning the bronze medal with a personal best jump of 5’0” was Sophomore Shania Steptoe. Both girls had a wonderful day and contributed 16 points.
Junior Syntyche Laguerre and Freshman Alessa King both had personal record jumps in Long Jump. Laguerre placed 5th with a distance of 16’7 while King placed 6th with a jump of 16’4.
Laguerre also placed 3rd in the Triple Jump with a distance of 35’ ¾
In Discus, Junior Sandra Cortez placed 3rd with a personal best throw of 90’9. Junior Olivia Harolds placed 5th in the event with a distance of 88’2 feet.
The 3200 meter run kicked off the running events with a wonderful performance by Sophomore Emely Aleman. She ran a personal record time of 12:48 and placed 6th.
In the hurdling events, Senior Hailey Williams and Junior Javlyn Cameron had awesome performances in both events contributing 36 points to the team. Cameron won the 100 meter hurdles and Williams came in 2nd with times of 14.89 and 15.46, respectively. Later on in the night, the duo raced hard in the 300 meter hurdles. Williams won the event with a time of 45.42 and Cameron took home the silver medal, running a time of 47.08. Both girls showed great effort in both races!
In the 400 meter dash, Alessa King ran a personal best time of 63.40 seconds earning her 4th place.
There were a lot of improvements seen at the Bulldog Relays! The girls will be working hard to improve even more next week. It was nice bringing home another plaque to add to the Girls Track Team collection! The Varsity Girls will be back in action on Friday, March 4 at the Lamar Consolidated ISD Relays at Traylor Stadium in Rosenburg.
