VARSITY GIRLS TRACK UPDATE!

The meet kicked off to a great start with the field events. Senior Samara Hodges won the High Jump competition with a jump of 5’4”, easily beating the rest of the field by four inches.

In the Triple Jump, Junior Syntyche Laguerre placed 3^rd with a jump of 36-3 ½. She bettered her jump from last year at this meet by over 2 feet. This was a great start to the season!

Freshman Ayotoluwafunmi Osunsade had a wonderful performance in the Shot Put. She placed 3^rd with a throw of 33-3 ½, setting the mark high for her first Varsity meet!

In Discus, Junior Olivia Harolds competed well with a 6^th place finish and a throw of 93-1, bringing home a nice medal.

The girls’ 4X100 meter relay team, consisting of Senior Samara Hodges, Junior Javlyn Cameron and Senior Hailey Williams, competed hard against some fast competition. They had a finishing time of 48.64, earning them each a bronze medal.

As always, the hurdle competitors did not disappoint. Junior Javlyn Cameron had an awesome performance and placed 2^nd in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.38.

Javlyn had a great performance in the 300 meter hurdles, as well. She placed 3^rd with a time of 44.86, two seconds faster than last year at this meet. Senior Hailey Williams also had a nice 300m hurdle race and placed 4^th with a time of 46.70. 

We saw some great things by our athletes this past weekend, as well as things we need to improve on. The girls will hit the track hard this week in preparation for their upcoming meet this Friday, February 19, at the Pearland Oilers Relays at Pearland High School.
