The Cross Country teams competed at the Larry Gnatzig Cross Country Invitational on October 1 at Lone Star College North Harris. The Varsity girls placed 4th out of 10 teams and JV placed 3rd out of 12 in the competition.
The Varsity squad was led by Sophomore Alessa King, who had an outstanding run placing 6th out of a field of 72 runners. She recorded a personal best time of 19:54 over the 5K course, earning herself a medal. Junior Emely Aleman also had an awesome run and placed 11th with a season best time of 20:18. Senior Lexi Torbit earned the final medal for the Lady Rams by placing 20th with a time of 21:06 Sophomore Melanie Dominguez was right behind in 21st place, running a personal best time of 21:07. Senior Shelby Sears and Junior Paulette Low had strong finishes, recording times of 21:28 and 22:08 and placing 23rd and 27th, respectively.
The JV team was led by Freshman Jennifer Ervine, who had a strong performance over the 2 mile course. She ran a time of 14:22 and placed 14th out of 101 runners, earning her a medal. Freshman Noor Naghi wasn’t far behind running a 14:40, good for 20th place. Sophomore Jackie Gonzalez had a 23rd place finish with a time of 15:10. Freshman Kyra Holifield earned the final medal for the squad, placing 24th and running a time of 15:13. Freshman Iliana Velez ran a time of 15:25 and placed 28th. Junior Kate May placed 51st with a time of 16:19. Sophomores Azlynn Zuniga and Nadia Makhloufi were the final Rams to finish with times of 16:55 and 16:57, placing them 58th and 60th.
The Mayde Creek Cross Country girls competed strong and more personal and season bests were earned. The girls will be back in action on Saturday, October 8, at the Strake Jesuit Crusader Invitational at Bear Creek Park.
