Girls Cross Country Update

The Cross Country teams competed at the Kempner Cougar Classic Cross Country Meet on September 22 in Sugar Land. The Varsity girls placed 4th out of 14 teams and JV placed 10th out of 19 in the competition.

The Varsity squad was led by Sophomore Alessa King, who placed 9th out of a field of 116 runners. She recorded a time of 21:04 over the hilly 5K course, earning herself a medal. Senior Lexi Torbit also ran a great race, placing 15th with a time of 21:16. Sophomore Melanie Dominguez was the third Ram to finish, running a personal best time of 21:38 and placing 22nd. Junior Emely Aleman placed 26th with a time of 21:52. Senior Andrea Vo had a strong finish and placed 31st with a time of 22:10. Senior Shelby Sears was the final Varsity Lady Ram to earn a medal. She placed 34th and had a time of 22:22.  Junior Paulette Low finished in 62nd place with a time of 24:02.

The JV team was led by Freshman Jennifer Ervine, who had a strong performance over the hilly 2.15 mile course. She ran a time of 17:18 and placed 26th out of 137 runners, earning her a medal. Sophomore Jackie Gonzalez was the next Ram to earn a medal with a 28th place finish and a time of 17:23. Freshmen Iliana Velez and Noor Naghi ran times of 18:29 and 18:55, placing them 56th and 65th, respectively. Rounding out the top 5 for the Lady Rams was Sophomore Shannon Dixon.  She placed 75th and recorded a time of 19:19. Sophomore Azlynn Zuniga (88th) and Freshman Kyra Holifield (95th) also competed on the JV squad this week.

Sophomore Nadia Makhloufi, Junior Liliana Garcia, Sophomore Samantha Rhodes and Freshman Jenna Wong raced hard in the Open Race.

The Mayde Creek Cross Country girls competed strong on a tough course. I was very proud of the way they pushed themselves during the race. The girls will be back in action on Saturday, October 1, at the Larry Gnatzig Invitational at Lone Star College North Harris.
