HALE RESIGNS AS NCHS' BASEBALL COACH

As Natchitoches Central looks to snap a long playoff drought on the baseball diamond, it will have to do it with a new coach. After two seasons, Jeramie Hale resigned as the school's baseball coach — compiling a 19-42 mark over the last two seasons. Attempts to reach Hale via phone were unsuccessful. Prior to his stint at NCHS, Hale coached St. Mary's for seven seasons and guided the Tigers to the 2011 Class 1A state title in a 23-0 rout over Oak Grove. In that season, Hale earned the 2011 All-Cenla Coach of the Year as St. Mary's went 29-5. The Chiefs have not made the postseason in baseball in over 17 seasons. LSUA's Smith becomes coach at Wiley The coaching tree of LSU of Alexandria men's basketball coach Larry Cordaro continues to expand as former assistant Jay Smith was introduced as Wiley's men's basketball coach Friday. "I am ready to roll up my sleeves and get to work," Smith said during his introductory press conference per WileyAthletics.com. "My job is to graduate student-athletes and develop young men which will go out and make a difference in our world. That is the Wiley Way. We are going to win some basketball games." Smith served as an assistant on Cordaro's staff for the last three seasons as the Generals went 86-9 while winning three RRAC regular season titles and two RRAC tournament titles. Prior to his time at LSUA, Smith was in the high school ranks at Comeaux as an assistant for eight years. Last season, LSUA had its finest season by 34-1 and made the Fab Four of the NAIA men's basketball tournament — falling in the semifinals to Life University. Smith joins Taylor Smith and Brian Terwilliger as assistants from Cordaro's staff to receive head coaching gigs in any level. Taylor Smith became University Academy's boys basketball coach in May, while Terwilliger has coached at Menard over the last two seasons — leading the Eagles to their first quarterfinal appearance since 2001. Cordaro expects to name and introduce a new assistant in the next two weeks.
