Christian Brothers Academy was awarded the 2016 NJSIAA ShopRite Cup for best non-public athletics department in the state of New Jersey on Thursday afternoon at CBA.

It is CBA's eighth overall and second straight ShopRite Cup. Mr. Bill Bruno (CBA '71) from the NJSIAA and Mr. Rick Saker (CBA '00) from the ShopRite Corporation were on hand to present Principal Ross Fales and Director of Athletics Vito Chiaravalloti with the 2016 Cup.

The ShopRite Cup is determined through a points system designed by the NJSIAA, which rewards schools for high finishes in NJSIAA-sanctioned conference and state events. CBA accumulated 165 points, which beat Delbarton (124) and Don Bosco Prep (119) for the Cup.

2015-16 Colts teams that placed in the ShopRite Cup standings are as followed:

First Place: Swimming, Indoor Track Relays, Indoor Track Overall, Outdoor Track & Field

Second Place: Soccer, Cross Country, Ice Hockey, Golf

Third Place: Tennis

Fourth Place: Wrestling

In addition, CBA earned points in both the winter and spring seasons for having zero ejections across all sports during those seasons.

Thursday's ceremony honored the 2015-16 accomplishments all 18 varsity sports at the Academy. The Colts won state championships in indoor & outdoor track, rugby, sailing and swimming, while adding eight conference championships and 11 division titles.

"This is a proud day for our entire community," Chiaravalloti said. "Our student-athletes work tirelessly to represent CBA and our rich tradition to the best of their ability. To once again be recognized by the NJSIAA and ShopRite for their dedication and effort is extraordinary. Today, 58 years of Colt Crazies get to share this moment with us and enjoy it."
