Boys Soccer Advance Past 1st Round

The Roosevelt Roughriders continued their winning ways with an emphatic 5-1 victory over Indianola in the first round of sub-state Monday night.

Luke Whitman kept up his assault on the scoring record as he knocked in two early chances , before being withdrawn to rest up for the second round vs. the Warriors of Waukee. The team moved to 3-0 when Sri Chilikuri volleyed in a great cross from the determined Connor Gilbreath. A moment of inattention allowed the Indians a brief hope at 3-1 before order was restored in the second half . Composed finishes by juniors , Dalton Miller and Baraka Ellie , rounded out a solid performance and Man of the Match honors were garnered by sophomore, Jack Malone, who had a hand in 3 of the 5 tallies on the evening. The Riders once again used their trademark ball possession and up-tempo movement to overwhelm their 12th straight opponent, moving the squad to 13-4 this spring.

The second half was notable in that several youngsters contributed significantly , allowing rest for multiple starters and invaluable experience for the supporting cast who will undoubtedly be called upon during this arduous six game gauntlet that is the State Championship. Dalton Miller, Aidan Martindale, Sri Chilikuri, Tavian Carnahan and Sam Holmes all worked hard to wrap things up and move on to the next round.

Game time, Wednesday night , at Waukee HS is 6:30pm.
