It wasn’t what coach Jeremy Dunnihoo wanted to hear from his guys following Tuesday’s 16-0 five-inning loss to Badger South Conference rival Oregon.

When he asked the Vikings why they thought the game was lost, the answer he heard was the second inning.

“That tells me where their mindset is at and how they are dealing with adversity right now,” Dunnihoo said. “As soon as we get down, we are just quitting on ourselves.”

University of Michigan recruit Dillon Nowicki started, but instead of a spark, Stoughton found itself in trouble early.

The Panthers batted around three times and scored five runs in the second, third and fourth innings, chasing Nowicki after 2 1/2.

“Yes, we need to win a game, but we need to start doing little things to actually earn a win because no one on our schedule is going to roll over and just hand us a win,” Dunnihoo said.

Nowicki allowed eight earned runs on five hits and eight walks, striking out three.
