The Norman North girls didn’t quite get to finish what they started, but it’s as good as if they had.

Though lightening in the area meant Tuesday’s game ended in the 75th minute rather than after 80, the Timberwolves still beat a good Southmoore team 4-1, claiming a district title along the way.

North finished the regular season 11-3 and 7-0 in District 6A-2. Southmoore finished 6-5 and 5-2.

The T-Wolves' first two games of the playoffs, presuming they win the first one, will be played at the newly-minted Bryan Young Memorial Field. Southmoore’s going to the playoffs, too, but will have to do it away from home.

Though the SaberCats scored the game’s only second-half goal, they accepted the contest finishing early.

North’s Yazmeen Ryan continued her flurry of multi-goal games with a first-half hat trick, scoring 21:58 before intermission, 3:39 before intermission and 2:22 before intermission.

She was assisted by Ally Mayberry, Katie Fowler and Hailey Morf.

The T-Wolves got the only goal they would need when Tori Wilpitz scored about 8 minutes into the game, getting the assist from Jamie McGinnes.

Had Southmoore won the game and the margin points fallen just right, the SaberCats could have claimed the district crown.

However, that was never going to happen, as North peppered shots toward the Southmoore goal almost from the start.

The T-Wolves racked up 14 first-half shots and, despite getting outscored after the half, still outshot the SaberCats 12 to 3 after the break.
