The Laurens Lady Raiders battled back from four runs down in the fifth inning but came up just short in a 10-9 loss to Greenwood on Tuesday night in Greenwood.

The Lady Raiders were up 6-1 in the bottom of the fifth when Greenwood capitalized on 6 of Laurens’ 10 total errors. The Eagles scored 9 runs to go up 10-6 going into the sixth inning.

Laurens scored three runs in the sixth inning to cut the lead to 10-9 going into the final frame. The Lady Raiders scored on a single by Matti Cantrell and a groundout in the sixth.

Rachel Delio took the loss for the Lady Raiders. She threw five and two-thirds innings, surrendering five runs, five hits, striking out two, and walking one.

Laurens did manage to collect ten hits. CJ Ginn, Cassy Plaia, Octavia Johnson, and Jillian Sward each collected multiple hits for the Lady Raiders.

Greenwood had ten hits in the game. Abigal Waters, Madelyn Wood, and Courtni Redden each collected multiple hits for Greenwood.

The Raiders fall to 9-8 overall and 3-3 in Region 2-5A play. They are now fighting for a playoff spot as they fall from first to fourth in the region standings.

Laurens will be back in action on Thursday and they look for redemption against the Eagles. The first pitch is slated for 7:30pm at Laurens.
