FORT GIBSON — Fort Gibson coach Matt Ross has seen some lumber production from his team’s bats of late.

Saturday’s matinee at Carr-O’Dell Tiger Park showed another example of that in a 12-4 win against Inola in a District 4A-7 matchup.

“This is one of the best hitting ball clubs that I’ve had,” said Tiger coach Matt Ross. “After the Shawnee Tournament, we’ve started hammering the ball pretty well and it’s kind of holding right now with being through some wars and it’s starting to show.”

Fort Gibson (15-7, 7-1) had a 3-2 lead heading into the fourth and looked to add more when Kadin Berry stepped up to the plate and drove a double to center field. After Andrew Rumbley shot a single to right, for one of his team-leading three hits, Berry scored on an Inola throwing error.

Cole Igert sacrificed in Rumbley, then Brandon Downey tripled to center. Jace Clinkenbeard hit into a RBI ground out to score Downey to make it a 6-2 lead.

Fort Gibson added three more to its lead in the fifth as Justin Garrett doubled in Jace Dortch, who came on as a courtesy runner, Igert walked in Garrett and Clinkenbeard drew a walk to force in Seth Martin and widen the lead to 9-2.

Inola added two runs in the sixth off a Tigers fielding error and two hits, but Fort Gibson answered in the bottom of the inning.

Garrett hit a solo home run over the right field wall, and Martin, who reached by being hit, scored on two consecutive throwing errors while initially stealing second. Berry finished off the Tiger scoring in dramatic fashion as he hit a solo blast over the hitter’s eye in center field.

Clinkenbeard started on the mound for the Tigers but only lasted three innings as he had some arm issues. He was 1-for-3 with a walk with three RBIs.

“Our (defensive) intensity wasn’t there but we came out with the win anyway and I’m proud of our guys for making the defensive plays and hitting the ball,” he said.

Ladd got the win as he pitched four innings and allowed two runs, three hits, one walk and struck out three.

Downey and Garrett each had two hits.

Inola is 6-15 and 2-6.
