BHS BASEBALL RALLIES PAST PONTIAC

Ryan Rose singled in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning Friday to give freshman Nick Sharp his first varsity victory as Bloomington High School's baseball team rallied from a four-run deficit for a 9-8 win over Pontiac at Howard Saar Field. Rose finished with three hits including a triple while Reid Rector also tripled among his two hits and drove in two as the Purple Raiders (3-4) racked up 12 hits. Sophomore Jesse Goropesek tossed 2? innings of scoreless relief before Sharpe worked one clean inning. Andrew Lee led Pontiac (1-5) with two hits, a double and three RBIs while Eric Zega collected three hits. West falls in 10: Chatham Glenwood scored three runs in the top of the 10th inning to down Normal West, 5-2, at Normal. Glenwood took a 2-1 lead in the top of the ninth before West tied it in the bottom half on a two-out RBI single by Alex Hoss. Austin Collinson (2-1) took the loss in relief for the Wildcats (8-5), who committed six errors. Peyton Dillingham pitched the first seven innings, allowing three hits and one run (none earned) with one walk and eighth strikeouts. He also had West's other RBI. Washington tips NCHS: Washington (7-0) scored five runs in the fifth and three in the sixth to edge Normal Community, 8-7, in nonconference action at Normal. Cooper Zogg had two hits and two RBI for NCHS (3-3), while Brady Fletcher added two hits, including a double, and scored twice. J.D. Theile (0-1) took the loss in relief. LeRoy's Egan sets mark: Brett Egan set LeRoy's school record for career wins at 23, tossing a six-inning, one-hitter in a 10-0 home victory over GCMS in the Heart of Illinois Conference opener for both teams. Egan (3-0) struck out 10 and walked one for the Panthers (6-2). Zenner paces PBL: Andrew Zenner pitched a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts and also had two hits and three RBI in PBL's 17-0 five-inning home win over Watseka. SOFTBALL Eureka tips U High: Maddie McCunn's double drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh inning to lift unbeaten Eureka (7-0) to a 4-3 nonconference win over University High at Champion Fields in Normal. McCunn also drove in a run with a third-inning triple. Eureka's Danielle Ladendorf had three hits and scored the tying run in the sixth. Winning pitcher Quincy Boschulte allowed three earned runs with six strikeouts and one walk. Boitnott keys West sweep: Emma Boitnott hit a grand slam in the first game and a two-run shot in the second game as Normal West won 14-4 and 8-6 over Chatham Glenwood at Normal. Jess Jacobs had three hits in each game for West (4-2). Lauren Sholtis added three hits in the opener, including a double and two-run homer. Savana Mattson (2-1) and Bailey Turner (2-1) got the pitching wins. Weltha powers Bloomington: Ellie Weltha smacked her fourth homer in as many games as Bloomington picked up a 7-3 win in a nonconference makeup game at Metamora. Weltha hit a two-run shot in the third inning for the Purple Raiders (3-3) while Madison Frost contributed two hits and two RBIs in support of Madison Edwards (2-3), who struck out six and walked one. Tjaden paces Fieldcrest: Fieldcrest's Alaina Tjaden had a home run and a double among her three hits, scored three runs and drove in three in a 13-0, five-inning win over Tri-Valley at Downs. McGurk leads Streator: Maggie McGurk struck out 14 in five innings and also had four hits, including two doubles, and two RBI in Streator's 8-0 win at Plano. GIRLS SOCCER Shanks fuels Central win: Lauren Shanks had four goals and one assist to lead Central Catholic to a 5-0 victory over Olympia at White Oak Park in Bloomington. Sarah Brady added a goal for Central (4-4), while Caroline O'Connor and Brooke Flannelly had assists. Goalkeeper Ellie Stevens made one save. Olympia (5-3-2) received 13 saves from goalkeeper Danielle Litwiller. Mahomet blanks BHS Freshman goalkeeper Grace Marcy made seven saves but Bloomington (1-7-1) suffered a 7-0 home loss to Mahomet-Seymour. No other information was available.
